Surfing Merimbula Beach

Surfing Merimbula Beach

Surfing The Bar at Merimbula Beach
From the Surfing in Australia Series

At the entrance to Merimbula lake a sand bar was formed. This is where ocean ground swells rise up to form the famous waves of The Bar. These waves mostly run south creating classic left hand rides but, on occasions, there are some great right handers to be enjoyed.

The Bar has been a famous surf spot for many years, one that I've been fortunate enough to have enjoyed numerous times. Its reputation as one of Australia's top wave riding destinations is truly justified.

Surrounded by tree clad hills, Merimbula basks in sunshine all year round and shelters in a shallow valley which opens to the pristine waters of the Pacific Ocean. I could paint a 100 paintings of Merimbula but I chose to recreate some of my most treasured surfing memories - Surfing The Bar.
