NOOSA FESTIVAL OF SURFING
From the Surfing in Australia series by Garry Birdsall

The Noosa Festival of Surfing, held in March each year, is 7 days of surfing action at its best. It is a week of family fun events that incorporates amateur and pro longboard surfing plus a range of other surfing disciplines, including stand up paddle, tandem and finless.

It attracts some of the best international and Australian surfers from all over the globe. An idyllic location in every way the points at Noosa produce long peeling waves with perfect barrel sections.

Spectators are treated to a variety of skilled longboard riding. The young rip up the waves with youthful vigor and the older riders, with their well honed surfing skills, show off the expertise gained from decades of surfing the oceans swells. All ages come together in a common bond – their love of the ocean and riding waves. All share their stories and experiences. The older riders reminisce with tales of yesteryear while the young immerse themselves in the excitement of the moment.
