Austinmer Beach

Austinmer Beach, just north of Wollongong, lies between a magnificent coastline on the East and spectacular backdrop of the Escarpment to the West. It is framed by rocky headlands to the North and South, and surrounded by fragrant Norfolk Pines. Austinmer Beach is one of the most popular beaches on the South Coast attracting locals, many Sydney-siders and countless overseas visitors. Its popularity dates back to the 1900s when people came by train to stay at several local guesthouses.

This award-winning beach has two ocean pools, which are fed by the waves that crash over them. In 1989 former members of men-only swimming clubs formed an unofficial swimming club, the Austinmer FYBROS (Freeze Your Balls/Boobs Off) to swim Saturday and Sunday and accept men, women and children as members.

Austinmer Surf Life Saving Club was founded in 1909 and continues today providing a safe, family friendly beach for both locals and visitors alike to enjoy. Nippers are held every second Sunday on the beach from 9am so be prepared for a very lively, loud and colourful scene.
