Worth The Journey
From the surfing in the '70s series by Garry Birdsall

Off the beaten track and across some very rugged terrain, we finally arrive at a secret surfing spot and our vehicles are still in one piece. Oh what a feeling…wave after perfect wave and only a couple of surfers in sight. Well worth the journey! In the 1970s the only question was which way the wind was blowing and where to go for the best swell, as every Australian beach was exclusively the domain of a few passionate surfers.
The XB Ford Fairmont station wagon was the first of the Muscle cars on the Australian scene and handy for camping and carrying boards. The VW Kombi owner was the envy of all of us surfers back then. Rugged, reliable and cheap to run, this well-known icon was a weekend mobile home to many.
